The Role:

Grief Care is a short-term counseling service that is offered to bereaved adults, children, families, and other community members.

We are looking for a part-time, 30 hrs per week, Grief Care Counselor who can provide vital, short-term individual, family, and group counseling services to bereaved adults, children, families, and other community members. Duties include facilitating workshops, support groups, and assistance in development and implementation of clinical curriculum. The position will serve as a representative of WVH and promote hospice care and bereavement services within the community. Appropriate client and community referral services will also be provided as indicated.

  • Must be capable of relating to patients and families in an open, empathetic, and supportive manner while maintaining personal and professional boundaries.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain rapport with community agencies and resources.
  • Strong, effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in high stress situations.
  • Must possess and develop a strong knowledge and understanding of hospice concept, philosophy, and services.
  • Knowledge of available community resources relevant to needs of population served.
  • Emotional maturity to cope with the ongoing needs of participating in a hospice bereavement program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of grief and loss theory, assessment skills as well as group, family, and individual intervention modalities.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, or related field.
  • Current or anticipated licensure in field of counseling preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in the field of bereavement work preferred.
  • Experience in providing direct clinical services preferred.
  • Clinical knowledge base and relevant experience providing direct counseling services for children, adolescents, adult, and geriatric populations preferred.
  • Must have current valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Spanish bi-lingual skills desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and facilitates bereavement service activities including camps, adult and child grief support groups, special events, memorial services, curriculum development and workshops/training. Schedules and facilitates grief support groups.
  • Makes home and tele-visits to families and individuals to offer support, counseling, and assessment and/or referral.
  • Provides information and resources to grieving families, children, community agencies and other outside individuals. Maintains up to date list of counseling and community referral resources.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with outside counselors and agencies.
  • Works with volunteer coordinators to train recruit, train and utilize volunteers within the bereavement department.
  • Conducts workshops and training within the greater community on bereavement, grief, death and dying, compassion fatigue, hospice care and other topics as assigned.
  • Maintains and upgrades hospice/bereavement skills knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Provides continue education/orientation for all team members (staff and volunteers) in bereavement.
  • Acts as preceptor when needed for clinical interns.
