Volunteer Coordinator

Full Time

This is a full-time position Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, with occasional flexible hours in the evening required.

We are currently hiring a Volunteer Coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of a high-quality volunteer program for Willamette Vital Health.  The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee all aspects of WVH’s award winning Pet Peace of Mind program including coordination with patients, veterinarians and groomers, budget management, special events and fundraising. They will work as part of the Volunteer Services team to recruit, train, and support people for the full range of volunteer roles within the hospice program including direct patient care, supportive phone calls, office tasks, fundraising, community outreach and special projects.

The ideal candidate will have two years’ experience working within the field of volunteer management and a passion for pets and people. The Pet Peace of Mind Program works with WVH hospice patients and families to keep beloved pets in the homes of their humans as long as possible and supports the rehoming process, if necessary, after the hospice patient dies or can no longer keep their pet in their home.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to function in high stress situations and manage multiple priorities. Additionally, emotional maturity is necessary to cope with the ongoing reality of working with multigenerational families in crisis, who are in need of support when facing a serious illness.

Job Duties/Functions:

  • Work responsibilities frequently concern confidential and/or sensitive information always requiring the use of discretion.
  • The position requires excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Work, Excel), design software such as Canva, and the ability to learn and use an electronic Medical Record.
  • Works collaboratively with fellow volunteer coordinators to organize, implement and manage the volunteer program for the agency.
  • Plans, implements and coordinates the delivery of volunteer services.
  • Brings energy and excitement for the work of identifying and recruiting new volunteers to the pool of WVH volunteers.
  • Recruits, orients and assigns volunteers.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents volunteers’ performance on an annual basis.
  • Maintains volunteer program documentation and statistics.
  • Facilitates the Bereavement Volunteer program through effective recruitment, training, and support. Works closely with the professional Bereavement volunteers as well as to support the community need.
  • Coordinates the We Honor Veteran volunteer activities including Veteran-to- Veteran volunteer visits, Memorial Day BBQ, Veterans’ Day breakfast, and ongoing education.

Experience/Skills:

  • Experience working with multi-generational volunteers.  
  • Experience with death/dying, working in a team focused environment, program development, and management.
  • Experience with public presentations/training and feeling comfortable speaking is front of small and large group settings.
  • Experience working with health care personnel.
  • Ability to perform job functions in various settings such as office or patient home.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability when faced with internal or external barriers, or when faced with differing points of view
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends as needed
  • Must have competent office equipment and computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products and ability to learn new programs
  • Ability to safely drive own vehicle frequently

Education/Requirements:

  • AA degree or higher required
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, Public Relations, Social Services or related field is preferred
  • Must have current Oregon driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance
