The Role:

Our Collections Specialist provides collections and billing support for all commercial billing functions of the organization. This requires experience dealing with claims resolution, disputes with insurance providers, and other methods of resolving claims successfully. In addition, the position also includes the duties of supporting the Commercial Biller as requested.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience with commercial medical billing and collections for a healthcare organization.
  • Knowledge of insurance processes and billing.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic medical record systems is preferred.
  • Must be proficient with computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of EXCEL and ability to create/edit spreadsheets are important to success.
  • Experience with accounts payable processing is helpful.
  • Experience with ADP Payroll or payroll processing is helpful.
  • Experience with bookkeeping is helpful.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently, and in a small collaborative team setting.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify, research, and resolve commercial credit balances and missing payments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate of Arts degree or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and engage in collections activities for aged A/R balances from commercial and Medicaid insurance providers as well as individuals as necessary.
  • Maintain and adapt collections tools used for identification of past due claims and their status.
  • Handle collection calls and follow-up billing issues with commercial accounts in a professional manner.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of accounting and billing information.
  • Identify priorities and problems with collections functions and alerts supervisor.
  • Identify and recommend changes which result in effective use of resources and cost containment.
  • Assist and, when necessary, perform timely commercial billing functions for the agency.
  • Address, investigate and resolve any issues related to billing as requested.
  • Perform front end activities for Medicare Hospice Billing such as NOE’s, CTI’s and responding to error notices as requested.
  • Communicate in an effective, accurate and respectful manner.
  • Effectively use resources and time management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team and shows initiative, flexibility, and self-motivation.
  • Assist in varied accounting tasks, as assigned.
