The Role: Our Music Therapists provide music therapy that is individualized, goal directed and consistent with current standards of practice as well as hospice philosophy focusing on needs of patient and families facing serious illness. The MT-BC carries a caseload in which you will direct, assess, provide, and evaluate music therapy services for patients in their home or facility setting.

Your Impact. As a Music Therapist, you are a key member of the hospice interdisciplinary team and support our Grief Care Team with specialized services as available. Your strong therapeutic and interpersonal skills will ensure comfort to patients and family members.  

Specific job skills:

  • Provides music therapy that is individualized, goal directed and consistent with current standards of practice as well as hospice philosophy focusing on needs of patient and family.
  • Directs, assesses, provides and evaluates music therapy services for patients in the home or facility setting.
  • Helps to achieve continuity of patient care through planning and exchanging information with interdisciplinary team, health care members within the agency and other health care personnel regarding the patient’s condition and needs.
  • Focuses on pain relief, relaxation, stress reduction, emotional outlet, need for meaningful activity, lack of support system or isolation, difficulty in expressing feelings or interacting with others, the need for spiritual expression and anticipatory grief, and multiple losses.
  • Educates the team to the role of music therapist including how they might assist with patients and families.
  • Participates in community education or other speaking/music engagements as requested.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of two years-experience in Medical Music Therapy is required.
  • Knowledge of hospice concepts and practice is required. Hospice experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in music therapy required; Master’s degree in music therapy preferred.
  • MT credentials from the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Certification as MT-BC is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have current Oregon driver’s license, dependable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurance.
  • Must be vaccinated for COVID.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated skills in area of clinical expertise.
  • Strong therapeutic and interpersonal skills are required.  
  • Must have the ability to function in high stress situations and manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be able to work in all types of environments including a patient’s home or care facility.
  • Must demonstrate respect for differing lifestyles and cultural sensitivity.  
  • Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal skills required.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, and make repetitive motions involving hands/wrists and feet involved in writing and driving, and playing a variety of musical instruments.  
  • Knowledge of community resources is helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to continuously, hear and speak in a manner understood by most people.
  • Emotional maturity to cope with the ongoing needs of participating in a hospice program.  
  • Understanding of the differences between adult’s and children’s reaction to grief and life-threatening situations, and awareness of children’s music literature and age appropriate music activities that correspond to developmental stages.
  • Ability to drive own vehicle.
