Teen Volunteers
Being a hospice volunteer is an incredibly rewarding and life changing experience. The Hospice Youth Volunteer Council is a volunteer program made up of student volunteers aged 16 or older from high schools and colleges in the Salem area and surrounding communities. Even middle school-aged students can take part in making a difference in their communities.
A wide variety of volunteer opportunities for youth range from direct contact with patients to little or no contact. The youth volunteer must be at least 16 years old to have direct patient contact. Those younger can play an invaluable role in supporting the Willamette Valley Hospice mission by providing administrative support or working on special events and projects that occur throughout the year.
Some of the benefits of being part of the youth council include:
- Annual scholarship opportunities
- Community service
- Better understanding of the dying and grief process
- Educational benefits
- First hand look at the world of healthcare
- Fun meetings and events
- Meet new people
