Community Engagement Manager

The Community Engagement Manager provides the necessary vision, leadership, and fundraising skills that will enable the organization to achieve its fundraising targets and organizational development program. The Community Engagement Manager will have substantial fundraising experience, a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds from grants, foundations, trusts and major donors. The role is also responsible for developing and maintaining an effective individual donor program including donor marketing, communication, and outreach.

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position requiring varied hours of work.

Job Duties

    Strategy and Planning

  • Lead the annual fundraising planning process to produce effective strategies to achieve income targets across the range of revenue streams
  • In cooperation with the executive director and the board of directors, lead the development of any long-term strategy to achieve agreed long-term organizational goals
  • Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access these funds
  • Financial Planning and Budget Management

  • Produce cost-effective budgets to achieve action plans
  • Develop and maintain income and expenditure tracking and evaluation systems
  • Ensure the Fundraising Department is kept within budget
  • Fundraising

  • Manage an effective fundraising campaign that delivers fundraising income meeting set targets
  • Oversee the management of grant and trust income program, participates in writing grant proposals as necessary and ensuring production of effective, high quality proposals and reports.
  • Lead the individual giving development plan for the year which includes recruitment and development of new donors
  • Lead on development of new funding streams
  • Develop and maintain effective supporter journeys for the development of relationships and retention
  • Staff Management

  • Coach, mentor and train staff on fundraising campaign/activities
  • Manage workload and performance of one to four non-exempt employees through regular one-to-one staff discussions.
  • Conduct performance reviews

Performance Standards

  • Demonstrate successful track record of Strategic Fundraising
  • Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets
  • Proven ability to build, manage and develop key stakeholder, client and donor relationships
  • Track record of brining innovative creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organization
  • Exceptionally convincing and persuasive written and oral skills with the ability to present and convey complex ideas and issues clearly and coherently
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously, take initiative and make decisions
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Education and Experience

  • 1-3 years’ experience in planned giving and/or fundraising programs, preferably for a healthcare or non-profit organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising or other related field desired
  • Public speaking experience required
  • Hospice knowledge required; Hospice experience preferred
  • Knowledge of planned giving resources in Salem and outreach areas
  • Experience in writing grant proposals and reports to funders
