Accounting Specialist

For over 41 years, Willamette Valley Hospice has been helping families through one of the most difficult times of their lives – losing a loved one. We are looking for an Accounting Specialist who will work side by side with our Finance Manager to maintain the accounting systems of our hospice and palliative care programs. This position is full-time, non-exempt, and offers a competitive benefit package. Depending on your experience, the position pays $24.00 to $26.00 per hour.


  • Responsible for organizing and implementing accounting processes of the agency.
  • Recommends goals for the accounting department to the Finance Manager and implements plans accordingly.
  • Collaborates with the Finance Manager to establish an annual operational and capital budget.
  • Assists in the preparation of the financial statements with the Finance Manager for the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Supplies information needed for annual audit.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual Medicare CAP and Cost reports.
  • Prepares various reports and financial statements routinely and as requested.
  • Reviews all accounts payable entries and coding for accuracy and
  • Monitors investments and reports to the Finance Manager and/or Executive Director as requested.
  • Assists in interpreting insurance contracts and Medicare regulations and communicates changes.
  • Responsible for maintenance, balancing, recording and reporting funds received from multiple revenue streams including investments, grants, donations, and pledges including unrestricted, various temporarily restricted and Permanently restricted funds.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred.
  • College level course work in accounting or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in accounting.
  • Working knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, donation and grant management and reporting, based on generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in accounting software, spreadsheets, word processing, and data bases.
  • Demonstrated experience with medical billing, preferably Hospice, Medicare and third-party medical insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience with non-profit and accrual-based accounting preferred.
